Who are the Mountain Hosts?

As guest expectations have grown at ski resorts across the country so has the need to enhance on-hill services.  Over the last few years more and more resorts have established mountain host programs.  For the most part these programs utilize skiers and snowboarders, (all-volunteer at Bogus Basin), who have a basic understanding of on-hill safety promotion and awareness, and most importantly who enjoy being with and helping people. The host represents the resort, and therefore represents the corporate image developed by that resort. The host is, in every sense of the word, a partner with the resort. Besides imparting information and offering assistance, the host can set the tone for the guest experience and could well be the reason the guest does, or does not, return.

Resort hosts provide a variety of valuable guest services that are outside or an extension of traditional ski patrol duties and activities.  Experience gained through patrolling can be quite valuable in carrying out host duties.  Most patrollers have great communication skills, understand skier safety issues, enjoy being in the resort setting, provide exemplary first aid and want to help the guest.
